Nick

Rate this book
Lilly had everything she could ever want. The perfect job, the perfect house and the perfect lifestyle. Having successful parents meant she never had to want for anything. Perhaps, except for them.

Nick Carson from the very first moment had been the ridiculously good looking guy who hovered around her as they both oversaw the relationship of his brother and her best friend unfold. That was until one night, a chance encounter meant that Nick had to give Lilly a lift home. Gentle chit-chat led to burning temptation until they both agreed upon one thing. An agreement which consisted of one simple thing. Sex.

Only, it wasn't that simple. Nine months later and still holding onto the heartbreak Nick had left her with, Lilly was also holding onto something else. A new pact she had made for herself to never talk or go near Nick Carson ever again. For nine months it had worked, but Eve had given birth and now it was about to be broken.
Because now Lilly needed Nick.
Would she ever be able to forgive him for breaking her heart, or would Lilly remain the same way: alone and forever followed by Nick's gazing eyes?

SPOILERS!

Why do authors in this day & age feel the need to romanticize cheating? I am 27 yrs old and have never been cheated on and never would allow it. So I don’t understand this mentality these days these authors & fan girls alike have about cheating. Why would you ever be okay with it? How do you ever get the vision of him f***g OW out of your stupid brain and excuse it as “boys being boys” or a “mistake”?

This douchefart of a so-called hero was in a friends-with-benefits relationship with heroine in which she thought they were exclusive and she fell in love with him. She goes to his place to tell him how she feels and find him f***g his housekeeper!

This was his excuse:

"I didn't know back then until I lost it, I didn't know until it was taken away from me. You wouldn't talk to me for so long, every day hurt more than the last and I hung on your every move, praying you'd let me talk to you again one day. I knew I didn't deserve it. I've loved you since that day at the hotel when you flooded the damn bathroom with bubbles. I knew sitting in the bath with you that I couldn't imagine being without you and it scared the shit out of me, so I fought it. I wouldn't allow myself to believe it or give in to it. So when that cleaner came on to me, I didn't stop her. I regretted it from the moment it started and I'm so sorry I let it happen, Lilly. I'm so sorry."

Then in the present after they have been separated for 9 months and he comes back in the picture and starts up something again – while all the time allowing his ex OW (whom he had dated & also f**d at the ripe old age of 14 AND also cheated on her too) to keep coming on to him in front of heroine, keeping mum about his past with this OW and not pushing her away - until finally the stupid nitwit of a heroine gets a clue! However, as always, all the douchfart has to do is say ILY and all is forgotten. How romantic – not.

So I ask this question of all authors & readers alike; At what point in our lifetime can this be called a fictional “romance”? At what stage in our lifetime is anyone (young or old) consider “cheating” as something all men do because they have “needs” or just a “mistake” – or any other stupid excuses that authors use these days in fictional romances?

Yes, I know its fiction, but if you write, read & love this shite, then you believe in this nonsense. Otherwise, you would have a problem with this type of writing as I and many of us normal, self-confident women do who value ourselves and don’t accept crumbs from douchefarts.

I met both Nick and Lilly in the first two books of this series. Lilly is Eves’ best friend and Nick is one of Kit’s brothers.

Lilly and Nick get together one night when Lilly is out with workmates at a bar and gets unintentionally ditched, being the only single girl in the group. She has always thought Nick was incredibly hot and it seems he has a mutual interest in Lilly. After they both agree that being in a relationship can often bring layers of complication they agree to a FWB’s arrangement.

‘Closeness is the key to seducing a woman, her body can’t help it,’ he answered seductively. ‘As if programmed to answer the male presence lingering so close beside her, the scent and the way his touch prickles at her senses, teasing her needs.’

This arrangement goes on quite well for a while until that old chestnut, feelings, decides to make it a threesome and Lilly finds herself wanting more with Nick. Her intention of sharing this with Nick goes horribly wrong for both of them and things come to a very grinding (or rather a non-grinding) halt.

Nine months later they cross paths again when Eves’ baby is born. She hasn’t seen Nick for so long and it still feels just as raw for Lilly as it did on the day she walked away from him. Nick is gorgeous, if not more, than she can remember which makes seeing him all the more harder. He seems completely unaffected by seeing her, he mustn't have felt the same way as she did after all.

When Lilly gets an emergency call about her parents she needs to get to Australia as fast as she can. There is no way Eves can go with a new baby so Nick volunteers to accompany her. On the one hand Lilly is glad she is not alone but on the other she would rather it had been anyone but Nick. Getting to her parents is the most important thing now so any resentment she has for Nick can be pushed aside for now so she can focus on the important things.

Sharing most of her time with Nick turns out to be a good thing in some ways. He is level headed and keeps her calm when she is stressing out. She is hoping they can get back to just being friendly acquaintances so they can tolerate being around each other. It seems that Nick has other ideas though, he seems to enjoy flirting with Lilly which is doing crazy things to her emotions. She knows he really isn’t interested in anything serious with her and she cannot handle any more heartache over this guy.

It turns out that Nick has had time to reflect on what happened with Lilly all those months ago and now he is in a completely different place in his life. He now knows what he wants and nothing will get in the way. Now he just needs to show Lilly that he has changed and can be trusted with her heart.

As per the previous books there is a suspense element to this story and plenty of things going on in the background.

OMG I just realized Goodreads did not save my review so I have to write another one. I have to say that I stumbled on this series with book one and I could not wait to see what was going to happen to Nick.

He is the quiet brother always has his eyes open and always down for a good time. He meets Lilly and they decide to have this no strings attached relationship only one of them wants more and the other is not willing to give it more. This is where the story gets real good because the one who didn't want more now wants more and can't keep silent about it but can that person be trusted is what the other is thinking. They are wondering if this is real or not.

This series is a one click series and you will love the Carson brothers because they are hot as hell and when they love they love hard!

This review is kind of a mixed bag, because the book had some positive points, which I'll get to.

However, it had issues.
A) the writer didn't convince me the H & h belonged together...
B) the H & h needed a proper connection, which is different from sexual chemistry...
C) there were too many characters and loose ends...
D) there is no actual end but a cliffy that dumps into the next couple's book without resolving the current couples story. That type of marketing ploy alienates readers, just fyi.
E) HIRE. AN. EDITOR! FFS, people!

Okay. So, this book had potential. The writer has promising raw talent. I liked the suspense angle. I loved that it was single POV. I liked that Lilly was created outside the current "doormat heroine" template. This was a second-chance story of sorts, in that they weren't actually a couple when the separation occurred but more of a FWB thing. Even so, in this day and age they should have agreed to exclusivity so nobody's feelings got hurt when one half of the arrangement got caught getting a little something on the side.
So, I liked it that Lilly made Nick work for forgiveness and that Nick actually had the grace to do so without being a douche over it. Later on, Nick sort of retaliated over a poor choice on Lilly's part, resulting in a scene which IMO involved slight dubious consent and I loved that she got angry over his actions as well as the fact he admitted it was wrong and apologised. Pretty sure that NEVER happens these days, so props to Ms. Dyble for a heroine with some sense of self-preservation and self-respect. Lilly not only called Nick out on his toxic behaviour - which was contrary to his character anyway - and we saw a hero show remorse for acting a high-handed, arrogant twat.

There was some decent suspense here as well, if not a satisfying resolution to it.

On the not-so-complimentary side, this story didn't always flow well. Part of that might have been because this was like a story within a story atop another story within a story. Sort of like a literary Kachina doll. I dislike books in a series that are not complete standalones. There's like, 5? 6? brothers involved here and they are apparently all to be interconnected into a general arc. There have been two books devoted to the first brother and a whole lot of backstory preceding this one. So if you come into this as a standalone it's a bit confusing.

However, the number of proofreading errors was the most off-putting issue with this book.
When there is actual dialogue between characters, certain slang is acceptable. When the dialogue is internal or it's a case of setting up a scene, it is frowned upon to use 'gonna' or 'wanna' but it is unacceptable to use 'tryna.' 😑😑

I don't thing the phrase 'trying to' actually existed in this book. There were loads of other grammar and editing errors, as well as repeated misspelled words.
For instance, he alternate word for 'braiding' is PLAITing, not PLATTing.

Poor editing ranks near the top of my list of pet peeves in a book. It's unprofessional and frankly inconsiderate to those readers who expect a quality product they spend their money on. And it makes the writer look uneducated. I don't care how talented a writer may be, it's not going to matter if they come off bordering illiteracy and take no steps to rectify it.
The solution is a competent editor who triple-checks their work - and then checks it again. If language arts are not your strong suit, it's worth it to hire someone. What is the point in slaving over a book only to not put forth the best possible end result?
This is more forgivable in a rookie writer, not so much for someone with prior publications to their name.

All in all, there was potential here, but the writer needs to decide if she's going to use it to separate herself from the pack or not. That means polishing her work and abandoning some of the tired tropes that showed up in this story.

2.5 stars.

Oh how excited i was to read this book !! This is the third book in a series that just keeps getting better.
This is Nick and Lil's story. In the previous book we were well aware of the animosity between both Nick and Lil.
Nick is the playboy, no attachments, happy to entertain one, two or even 3 woman a night, never mind also willing to share !!!! Even with all this his desirability isn't reduced ! But he's also a man that knows what he's lost and will stop at nothing to put things right.
Lil is a no nonsense girl and she can't even be in the same room as Nick, she's a girl that's hurt and hurting, but she's also strong enough to get past it.
When Lil has to make an emergency visit to Australia because of the mother and father its Nick who accompanies her and Now we get to know their story !!!
Omg this author isn't one to give you sweet little stories, oh no, she's in your face and pulling your heart strings right from the word go !!!! She throws in humour, she throws in suspense and when your in that sweet cacoon she chucks your out then gives you a hug !! I more than once might have yelled out to her whilst reading "omg you cannot do this to me !!!" but i also loved every moment of it.
Nick and Lil give me everything i wanted and more in spades!! Both strong independent characters, at times my heart broke for Nick and the effort he put into everything even when nothing was going his way.
I adored Lil and her Heart, even with it broken she still had such spirit. At times i wanted to shake Lil, and even then my emotions were tied up right along with hers.
Nothing comes easy for either Nick or Lil and everything seems to go against them, one thing i do know is that while reading their story, the emotion and the angst are Real !!!!!!!!
I'm hoping i can survive the next book !!! Can't wait !!!

Great third book from this author

I am so excited to have read another book from SR Dyble, and although I feel it’s a little subdued after the rollercoaster that was Kit and Eves duet, it still had all of the same wit, banter and her trademark colloquialisms along with the continuing undercurrent of suspense that flowed through the first two books. While it can be considered a stand-a-lone, you would be missing out on the amazing and highly entertaining introduction to the world of the Carson Brothers if you didn’t read the other’s first.

Lilly was on fire. We met her in the duet and she is Eves’ take-no-prisoners best friend. She is like a piranha; little and cute, but oh so vicious. She and Nick have previously clashed and we see their dynamics at long last. He knows he stuffed up badly, and he’s trying to make things right, but she won’t have a bar of it. When I read just what he had done, I have to admit, I was wondering just how SR Dyble was going to make him look good in my eyes, let alone hers!

He’s had no chance in reaching her on an emotional level until tragedy strikes her parents and she must rush to Australia to be near them. Nick insists on accompanying her, and as he is doing his best to win her over, his skills seriously worked on me too. I struggled with forgiveness, but the skills of Ms Dyble’s writing was such that he did indeed make me want to fall in love with him.

I had to hit this book in one sitting, and with the ongoing threat from the past that the Carson brothers are trying to overcome, I was glued.

4.5 Stars for this book that has everything from humour and heartbreak, through to redemption and drama. Highly recommended 💜

Spellbinding from the beginning

If you haven't started S.R. Dyble's Carsonbrothers Series, I highly recommend that you do. NICK is the third book in this series and the story is becoming more and more intriguing. This is the story of Nick and Lilly, and it's just as addictive as Kit and Eves. This is definitely NOT a standalone.

I've really been looking forward to this story, especially with Ms Dyble giving hints of a "past" between Nick and Lil. I was really interested to see what happens between them. What she gave was absolute fireworks!

Missing parents, a trip to Australia, Lil's sassy, strong and blunt opinions, and Nick's alpha ways all make for a very interesting read. It's obvious that there is chemistry between the two of them, however both are stubborn and afraid to admit that feelings exist, due their past. Lilly is not willing to get her heart to a man who had already broken it, while Nick was just beginning to realise what he had prior to losing the one woman he still desperately wanted. Their game of 'cat and mouse' is both sexy and highly amusing. Not only are they dealing with the feelings toward one another, they are also dealing with the dangers that threaten them both.

Once again, Ms Dyble has written a story of emotion, discovery, adventure, and danger, keeping me spellbound from beginning to end. I look forward to more books in this enthralling series.

I have been waiting for this one and it was so worth the wait! It is a suspenseful and emotional story, but also funny and sweet at times. It’s such an easy read and hard to put down. I kept saying just one more chapter yet three chapters later I was still reading, so the author definitely did a great job keeping my attention throughout the entire story. It’s a romantic suspense so there’s a lot of story in here beyond the romance that had me a bit on edge.

I know both of these characters from the previous two books so it was great to finally get inside their heads and learn more about their story. Nick has a lot of fun with women, no commitment, just a player. Lilly is sweet, not much of a risk-taker, just a really nice person and a great friend. Together they are fun to watch! Their banter, his ego and her vulnerability are a perfect mix. Once she’s comfortable she’s a completely different person. She is confident and he encourages her to take some risks, even with him. I love their connection and sweetness, as well as their steamy chemistry.

This is book three in the Carson Brothers series and I still need more of the Carson Brothers. I can’t wait to see who’s up next and where this story goes. There’s a suspenseful mysterious side to all of these bothers. A hint of danger that is the draw and I can’t wait to see how this all plays out.

4 stars!!

This is Nick and Lilly’s story. It is book three of the “Carson Brothers” series. This can not be read as a stand alone.

Alright so I have been patiently waiting for Nick’s book and here it is!! Nick is the fun one in my eyes. The hoe. The one who would never settle down. Lilly is Eve’s bestie and we knew in the last books something was up. Well I was super excited to get the deets. I love how you get the past and the present with the first half of this book.

Nick is sexy. And he made me fall for him and that is hard to do when I know you have done something I don’t condone. Lilly is cool. I wish she had more of the backbone she claims she has but it works.

I adored the book but I felt like it was all over the place. Things were kind of thrown in that didn’t make sense or maybe not at that moment. It felt like some editing would do this book wonders. Skim it down a bit. But even with that this book is 4 stars because I adore all the characters and the story. This author also is good at giving me the full picture.

Can’t wait to find out what’s happening in the next book.

**I received this book as an ARC and in return gave my honest review.**

This third book in the Carson Brothers series is basically a continuation of the story, hallelujah! I have been dying to read about Nick and Lilly, the hints we’ve previously received in the other books stirred up such a yearning to know more.

Nick is to be one sexy, delicious male however has been a tad daft when it came to Lilly in the past. Lilly also is a strong, sassy female who is perfect for Nick. I really enjoyed her quick comebacks but also her sense of self-preservation, it’s so refreshing to see a female lead who simply refuses to be used.

The suspense element in this story simmers the whole way through until closer to the end when the action starts. In the meantime we are treated to some fantastic scenes in Australia that are described to make us all want to experience the same, I’m positive. A lot of fun and lighthearted adventure is had yet that serious element is still lurking. A clever balance when it seems the next book might be a tad more serious, bring it on!

Great characters, descriptions, expressions and a good storyline overall with a swoon worthy romance. Now, the wait for book four! 😳

So this is book 3 and it follows Nick and Lilly..

We meet both Nick and Lilly in Kit and Eves books.. Nick is Kits brother and Lilly is Eves Bestie..

What started out as some simple fun between Nick and Lilly turned into more when Lilly started to catch feelings.. when she goes to "talk to nick" about those said feelings.. she gets her heart crushed and she vows never again!! That Never again falls apart when her bestie gives birth and Lilly gets news that changes her life..

On a mission to get to her parents Lilly takes off.. but not without Nick.. Nick has taken it upon himself to be there to protect Lilly as (if you have read the first two books) danger is still out there.. and he dosent want anything to happen to Lilly.. He also wants to prove to Lilly that he can be the man she needs and deserves..

Will Lilly and Nick be able to put the past in the past and move forward before danger catches them or will it all fall apart?

this is a amazing series.. and I can not wait to see where the next book takes us.

Oh Nick and Lil!

We all have read the books about the stubborn Alpha that doesn't think they will meet the one to make them fall....This is kinda Nick.

We all have read the stories where the female has been hurt and doesn't trust of love easily.... This is kinda Lil.

Nick and Lil could easily call into the categories above, but their situation is different.

I don't want to give the story away because what would be the point of you reading it yourself?

This book totally drew me in and made it very VERY hard to put the book down and do responsible adult thing, like getting sleep for work the next day....sleep is overrated anyway LOL.

There were moments where I swooned at Nick, yelled at Lil for being stubborn, cried at some of the things they went through and even was left with my mouth open going on no the author did NOT just do THAT....

Look at the end of the day this book is definitely worth the read and 5 stars is simply NOT enough

Another outstanding book by S.R. Dyble!!! I am absolutely loving these books!! These brothers can come into my life any day!! Like I'm having a hard time choosing and we've only met two of them!!! The romance with the mystery and danger mixed in is the perfect combination to keep me intrigued until I've devoured the book's in one sitting. This book we get to know Nick and Lilly a little bit more and what all happened between them. And lord have mercy it was so much more than I imagined. I didn't want this book to end I wanted more. And I can't wait for the next book. They had the perfect chemistry but also the push and pull was just off the charts. The secrets that have to be held to protect some of them can cause so many confusions but actions can speak so much louder than words. If you have not gave this author a try you so need to. I highly highly recommend this book and this series!!! 5 stars isn't enough for them. - By Tina

I really loved the first two books of this series, but Nick’s book was just meh for me. I loved reading the bits and pieces of these characters when they appeared in her previous book. Lilly and Nick drunk hookup one night and the old adage, one of them develops feelings, Lilly, and the other just wants to keep it casual, Nick. Lilly is the bestie we would all kill for- she is smart, loyal and driven. Nick is the fun brother and basically a manwh**e.

Nine months later Lilly gets a call that her parents need her and is about to rush off to Australia but Eve can’t go with her because she just had a baby so Nick volunteers. She is preoccupied with her parents and not noticing Nick’s flirty behavior. He wants her back but not as a bed warmer but for real this time. I loved how Lilly made Nick work for it to get back in her good graces but I really wish she would have had more of a backbone that she claims to have.

Overall I enjoyed this story, even though it was a little all over the place. Looking forward to the next installment of this series.

Lily went out with friends and soon finds herself alone, never expecting to find Nick Carson there helping a friend. After some interesting conversation they decide to be friends with benefits as relationships they both agreed were complicated, but it ended as quickly as it started.
Seeing Nick again when Eve had her baby wasn’t something that Lilly wanted to do but kept calm for her friend, then a phone call changes everything. Her parents are missing, and she has to go to Australia, offered the Delta Jet to get home quicker she takes it, even though the price is Nick going with her.
The only good thing about Nick being there with her is he’s keeping her calm, although he’s flirting with her, she knows she can’t go there again, she wants more and that’s just something Nick can’t give her.
Nick didn’t want more before, but he’s had time to think and he knows what he wants now and it’s Lilly, but can she believe him after what happened last time.

3.5 stars for Nick by S.R. Dyble. This is book 3 in the Carson Brothers series. I received an ARC of this book. All opinions stated are my own. We were introduced to Nick and Lilly in the first two books of the series. I was interested in seeing how the story between these two characters would develop. After reading the first two books and loving them I had high expectations for this book. Unfortunately for me it didn’t reach 5 stars but it was still a good read. I am not a fan of cheating when it comes to the main characters and that is where it fell flat for me. Cheating plays a big part in Nick and Lilly’s relationship. I just did not feel like Nick was redeemable. With all that aside the story and drama that surrounded Lilly and her parents is what kept me hooked. I will continue to read this story and books from this author. I still found it enjoyable to read.

This author is fairly new with only a few books under her belt, but let me tell you right now, she is not one to be missed. From book 1 page 1 of this series I was hooked. You have seen the "relationship " between Lilly and Nick hinted at in previous books, now it's time for their story...

With Lilly's take no prisoners attitude, it should be interesting to see if she can make Nick see sense after miscommunication. Unexpected travel plans have them in close quarters together, so their issues may be solved sooner rather than later, or will it just confound the problem?

I won't say much more as lots happen and I don't want to ruin the story for anyone but definitely a must read and this is one author to watch!!!

Cannot wait to see what happens next...

This is the 3rd book in this series and is Nick and Lilly’s story. Nick and Lilly are attracted to each other but Nick being a playboy he does not want any commitment. When they agree to having a friends-with-benefits relationship it is fine until Lil starts to have more feeling for Nick, and when she goes to see him to discuss this she end up with her heart crushed, and she is determined to avoid him at all costs. Nick is determined to convince her to give him a chance, and when Lil must go home, he goes with her. This is a well written story which pulls at the heartstrings, and is filled with miscommunication, angst, suspense, emotion, animosity, witty banter, heartbreak, humour, and love. I cannot wait to read more form this author, and I recommend this series for all.

DAMN!!

I was so eager for this book, to see what the enigma was all about and damn, I was not disappointed.

I thorght kit was my favourite until NICK

Throughout kit and eves you get to see nick but not in his full glory, in this book it's all him, what makes him tick and love as we follow him on his rollercoaster that is his life.

This book took me on a wild ride and I had to read then re read before I could even think about writing this.

Love, danger and heartbreak, I felt it all, I laughed, cried and then cried some more.

What an amazing 3rd book in the series, I cant wait to learn more about the other brothers.

Loved Nick’s book. We meet him and Lily in the first two books of this series and I’ve been wondering about him and Lily. These two have been fighting their feelings for each other for a while now and with danger still around the corner first and foremost Nick wants to make sure nothing happens to Lily. I love how we get to see Nick and Lily together, and when these two make their pact, one night isn’t going to be enough for Lily, but she knows who Nick is and he’s not the committing kind, or is he? These two need to get out of their own way to find their way to each other. What an amazing ride this author takes us on and I can’t wait for more. I received a copy of this book.

I was really looking forward to this book- Lilly and Nick had me curious after reading Kit and Eves books.
The relationship development between them was definitely needed but their mood swings definitely gave me whiplash.

Her parents annoyed me. SO MUCH. I kind of wish they hadn't been found for what they put her through. I have a few choice names I want to be calling them right about now.

Despite that, I did enjoy the book.
The drama towards the end certainly kept me hooked, though it seemed a little on the light side which now has me wondering... why?

Things are never as easy as they seem in this world so I guess I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.

3.5 stars.

Nick is part of the delta group along with his brothers.
Lilly is best friends with Eve so is aware of the Carson brothers.
When Nick and Lilly decide to hook up she realises to late that she wanted more, Nick didn't realise what he had till he messed up.
He's desperate to make things right but she's avoiding him.
When she gets a call about her parents Nick takes action.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book I loved the determination of Nick and the strength of Lilly.
I can't wait for the next book in the series.

I've been patiently awaiting Nick's story and I have to say it didn't disappoint. I loved his back and forth banter with Lilly. These two are the perfect match it just may take them a while to get there.

Nick and Lilly were friends with benefits but when Lilly decided to come clean and tell Nick she she wanted more it was her who was left heartbroken. Now months later and Lilly needs someone by her side on a trip to Australia and Nick is determined it will be him. He will protect Lilly with his life.

A fab start to Nick and Lilly's story and I look forward to book 2.

This is book three in the Carson Brothers. After reading the previous books I was very excited to read Nick. I wasn’t disappointed as this is a great read.

This is Nick and Lilly’s story. When Nick breaks Lilly’s heart she’s determined to give him a wide berth. When fate brings them together Nick wants to convince Lilly to give them a second chance.

These are two very likeable characters. The author has given us another brilliant story that I didn’t want to put down. Can’t wait to read more from her.

With each book of the Carson Brother series they get better and better.

I’ve been wanting Nick’s story since we’ve meet him. And his story didn’t disappoint at all. Lil caught feelings for Nick, but he didn’t catch on as fast she’d like.

I loved Nick’s strength he had, and Lil’s easy going attitude.

I can’t wait to see what’s next from this series. This series is for sure a one click for me.

This is the third book of this series... Nick & Lilly. Just as great as the other books, couldn’t put it down. Dyble is seriously one of my top authors. I found this author a few months ago and absolutely love all her books!
Nick & Lilly make a great match! The emotions you can feel pouring through the pages. I connected with the characters & stayed wrapped up in the story until the last page. Can’t wait for more!
