Asian Americans are not monolithic, some lean Dem and some lean Rep. The great service of 80-20 is to remind us that we should temper our partisan leanings by looking at what the candidates actually do, especially on issues that directly impact us. Unfortunately, 80-20 seems to be becoming nothing more than an arm of the Democratic Party. If we look at what they parties actually do, Republicans have been good on opposing discrimination in school admissions and appointing judges that oppose such discrimination. This is not the only relevant issue, of course, but why should we blindly choose Democratic candidates in every senate race independent of candidate positions on issues we care about? This is Democratic partisanship, pure and simple.

SB Woo, You have done good work unifying and advocating for Asians and thank you for that. Now, you a divider of us all. You are pitting all Asian republicans against you and many may not be supporting you from now on. From reading all of your responses, your political thinking process is very immature and weak. For example, Biden was and still is a racist who tried to stop orphans from entering this country, helpless children. You are supporting him? If you are asking for proof, then I just proofed why you are weak.

Let's get rid of Trump. He is the most stupid US president since founding of USA. The world will be upside down if he extend his term to 2024. Asian should have one vote to say No tom Trump.

Isn't 80-20 supposed to be nonpartisan? Are we assuming that all Asian Americans are Democrats?

80-20 is non-partisan. During the non-election season, we work on issue of important to AsAms. For example, we worked on the college admission issue which is favored by Republicans. We also work on the DART issue to induce Pres. Trump stop using "Chinese Virus" which is welcome by all AsAms including Democrats. However, during the election season, we select a presidential candidate to support, although this time we select a presidential candidate, Trump, to REJECT. WE've practices this routine for more than 2o years already. Non-partisan does means we can't make a choice! SB

yes definitely Let's do it together to get rid of Trump. I was wrong to vote for him in 2016. This time for sure I will get all my family members together to vote against Trump. We have more than 10 people in the various areas including front line of medical staffs. The world will be trouble if trump wins the second term.

SB, Thank you for the clarity and directness of your words and actions. I wholeheartedly and sincerely agree with you and 80-20's support of Democ. Senate candidates/incubmeents. I do see that Amy McGrath has the veteran experience, and managerial skills, and perhap a shot, though she is lacking in political experience, which is important to defeat Sen. McConnell, who is a master of politics. I think Kentuckians need to realize they have a chance to elect someone better. We will see. Sincerely, Kin Ma *** Kin M. Ma, Ph.D. Associate Professor,

For any Chinese American with some political independence, your diatribe against Trump and Republicans makes one view you as a political operative with the goal of delivering an ethnic group, Asian Americans, to the Democratic Party. It is becoming more transparent to me and I regret my earlier support of this Super Pac which you have dedicated yourself to. The main message conveyed is that Trump is a terrible, even malicious, person whose behavior is beyond the pale. I agree his persona and behavior is problematic as our President. But all the outpouring of how despicable he is and should be defeated is more emotional ranting than rational. What policies of his administration are bad for all Americans? What policies of his are bad specifically for Asian Americans? Affirmative ... more ...

I was thinking the same thing that you are talking about, and you said everything that I wanted to say. We not only need to pay attention to the words, but the deeds of the individual. Trump has nominated a few conservatives to the supreme courts, and this is critical to our fight against discrimination of Asian American based on race. This alone is well-worthy of electing Trump as the president because the supreme court judges can influence our life for decades. I am so glad Trump nominated them, whose values are more align with Asian Americans. You are absolutely right, we need to look at the big picture. God sometimes chooses a terrible individual to achieve HIS purpose. We should not be blind by emotions, and we should know how to defend our fundamental interests. I have a lo ... more ...

80-20 claims to care a lot about ending racial discrimination in higher education. And the Trump administration has been a huge supporter of that goal, which most Democratic leaders have opposed. But somehow none of this matters -- is 80-20 really committed to the issues we care about? At times it feels more like a Democratic support group.

In some issues the Republican Party is better e.g. the equal opportunity to college admissions issue. On that issue, 80-20 supported our college students without any hesitation if 80-20 would offend the Democratic politicians or Party. But Trump is a terrible president who has already gotten AsAms, particularly ChAms, into big trouble. One day he may cause us to face the danger of being placed into internment camp. We work for our community's interest without ANY PARTISAN BIAS. S B

SB, Thanks for the latest press release. I appreciate very much the initiative and leadership that you have shown during the last many years with 80-20. Sometimes it must feel like a thank-less task, but it is an important task and a task that must be carried on. Regarding 80-20's latest press release, I like to offer a few comments: 1. I understand that we don't want to endorse Biden now. 2. It may be unrealistic to think that we can defeat Trump if his opponent Biden is so unattractive that even strong critics of Trump cannot support, when we know that there is a sizeable percentage of the voters who are strong and vocal supporters of Trump. 3. Even if Biden finds a strong and suitable VP candidate, the VP candidate still has to campaign following the strategy of the pr ... more ...

Dear Don: I certainly agrees with your points 1, 2 and 3. As to your point 4, I understand what your and your friends are doing in order to pull Biden back somewhat on his statement that Trump’s too soft on China. I don’t advise not voting for Biden because of whatever he has already said. The political reality is that ChAms represent a very small vote share in the 6 battleground states: AZ, FL, MI, NC, PA, and WI. So no presidential candidate, Biden or anyone else, will limit his campaign strategy because of the wishes of ChAms, given these battleground states. :-(. Even when we can convince Biden that 80% of the ChAm voters will NOT vote for him unless he changes, I don’t think he’ll change. Be very aware that there is a bipartisan agreement on keeping China weak s ... more ...

I wholeheartedly agree that Trump needs to be defeated. He is clearly a racist and will continue to blame the Chinese for his incompetent responses to Covid-19. Since All Republicans support Trump 100 percent, they need to be defeated so we can take back the Senate and stop the appointment of Trump picks that would continue his racist policies for generations to come. It will take a huge turnout of votes to defeat Trump. If 80-20 does not endorse Biden, I suspect the message to the AsAm community is that neither candidate is acceptable, so why vote at all? I believe that we must get off the fence and a choice must be made at some point. For me, anyone except Trump and Republicans down the line is just fine. David Gee

Thank you for an excellent question. 80-20 deletes all posts that are inappropriate or are actually hate speeches, wether it is for or against Trump. We not only deleted those posts that mention CCP which is completely irrelevant to the subject matter of 80-20's e-newsletters, we also delete posts some which use offensive language e.g. describing Trump as a "XXXman". Nevertheless, we sometime intentionally leave an inappropriate post on if it provides a teachable moment. An example will be Post 60 below. Thank you. SB

Dear SB, Thank you for your tireless work for the AA community. You have always advocated for electing the best candidate(s) for AA, not necessarily for the nation. Your call in this msg seems to be drifting away from that bedrock. Yes, Trump has a history of lacking respect for immigrants, which many AA are. It would have been better to list the differences for AA among different candidates, so we do not appear to drift in the wind depending on circumstances. Regards Bo

80-20 needs to stop pretending to be an unbiased organization. Just come out and declare undying loyalty to the Democrats already. Same thing happened in 2016. In no way voting against Trump is a good idea. This country would be in much worse shape if HC is in charge now. As to Biden. The double standards of the democrats and media is so glaring it scorches the eyes, #MeToo.

I respect what SB Woo did for Asian Americans, but have to disagree with him on this. Woo wrote: "Trump's bullying and war-like attitude towards any human beings/institutions/ nations, which disagree with him, not only causes domestic dis-unity but also threatens world peace." This is a very unfair statement. Trump is not nice to his opponent, but he has the right to express what he like and dislike. Unlike a traditional politician, he is crude but real. I would rather have a real person than a fake politician. Threaten world peace? You need to provide examples for all of these claims, otherwise you're just spewing talking points. These are all points that the media, which has been known to lie about Trump and twist his words, brings up any time they need to spin a narrative that whatever Trump does is bad. Additionally, I find it ironic that you bring up the fact that Trump has disrespected women when the other candidate for President has been accused of sexual assault. Or are you holding your tongue in, because "believe all women" doesn't pertain to Biden and you just need to defeat Trump at all costs? "Strong here, TDS is." - Yoda

Here is an example of Trump's disrespect for women. "Trump added, "I don't even wait. And when you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. ... Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything." Commentators and lawyers have described such an action as sexual assault." Reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Trump_Access_Hollywood_tape. So far as i know, Trump never denied it. Biden was accused. He denied it. The case is up in nthe air right now.

What I implied is that if you're to blame Trump for saying those things and "disrespecting women", you need to hold the other Presidential candidate responsible for what he did to disrespect women. Did Trump actually grab women by the p*ssy? No, and I can understand why the tape of him saying something like that can raise concerns. However, I put that on the same level as a sexual assault allegation. What I can see in the future from 80-20 is that the organization endorses Joe Biden, because of the mission to oppose Trump. And if you do so, you run into hot water because Joe Biden has also "disrespected women" via those sexual assault allegations. It's not so much the allegation that raises eyebrows here, it's that during his interviews, Biden can't come up with a reply to questions abo ... more ...

"Not very partisan" Oh, drop the BS. You're liberal, unless it pertains to an issue that directly adversely affects AsianAms. The only conservative position you hold is being against affirmative action, but only because it adversely affects AsianAms. I'm guessing if college institutions tell the public that whites need higher SAT scores than Asians, then you would be all for AA. The only reason you're holding liberal positions in times like these are because you follow the mainstream media. Listen to other sources for your news. If not for the facts, at least for the political commentary. It's people and organizations like yours that cause the internal division, not Trump. Trump was a result of the political division, not the cause. You need to get your facts straight.
