Commercial tenants advised to come forward

Published: Monday, 4th May 2020

Around 4,500 commercial tenants in Birmingham could miss out on grant funding and are being advised to get in touch with the City Council if they need further support.

Commercial tenants with Birmingham City Council are being advised to submit details for grant funding they may be eligible for as soon as possible, and to also get in touch with the Property Services rents team if there is any other support they need.

The effect of restriction on commercial tenants means that many will require support in managing businesses, commercial rent payments and supporting employees during current times.

Birmingham City Council’s Property Services Team are urging their tenants to get in touch if they are struggling and to provide their business details to ensure they do not miss opportunities.

Leader of Birmingham City Council, Councillor Ian Ward said: “Commercial tenants and businesses across Birmingham contribute massively to the city and we are working to make sure they all get the support that they need.”

“We know that for some of our tenants, they will have been impacted by COVID-19 harder than others. Whilst we all work to support each other during COVID-19, we want to ensure our tenants are utilising all of the support available to them, therefore, if you are struggling, please make sure that you submit your details and get in touch if you need any further support.”

Support options may include business grants, the self-employment income support scheme and the employee retention scheme.

If there are commercial tenants with Birmingham City Council who are still struggling after receiving funding, they may get in touch for further advice by emailing BPSPPIU@birmingham.gov.uk
