Our mandate is to support Canadian Indigenous choreographer Olivia C. Davies in creation, production, community-engaged projects, creative collaboration and commissions.
Since 2018, O.Dela Arts seeks to develop audiences for Contemporary Indigenous dance and community arts. The organization’s built upon peer exchange, professional development and performance presentations.
Our organization has persevered in curating captivating live performance, creating and commissioning new works and fostering partnerships with other Indigenous and Non-Indigenous artists, presenters and producers. We continue to build capacity in our administrative and fundraising efforts, and develop new goals and objectives for our future with live performance, online activation, and creative engagements with visionaries in the fields of music, dance, literature and new media.
Conceived in 2019, Matriarchs Uprising is an annual performance festival that celebrates contemporary female Indigenous dance. Held on unceded Coast Salish Territory, the festival offers a program of live performances, educational workshops, and circle conversations led by local and international Indigenous artists. Matriarchs Uprising centres Indigenous women who are nurturing and advancing the art of contemporary dance. We’re a platform for artists and audiences to come together and connect across different nations and Indigenous worldviews through dance.
Our Talking Truths conversation series provides new ways to educate audiences to the nuances of Contemporary Indigenous dance and community arts forms. These circle conversations are hosted by Olivia and can be found at every Matriarchs Uprising series and throughout the year in partnership with other Indigenous and Community Arts organizations.
