The 2022 annual Africa Construction Law (ACL) Conference, scheduled for 30 and 31 May 2022, is the largest gathering of practitioners working in the infrastructure and energy space across Africa.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Construction Law in Africa: Turning Hindsight into Foresight.” The event will be held both virtually and in-person in Lagos, Nigeria.

The 2022 edition of the ACL Conference builds on the successes of the inaugural edition in 2021 which attracted high levels of interest globally, and which included delegates from government institutions, employers, developers, contractors and financial institutions/MDBs. The 2022 edition anticipates attendance in the region of 2500 delegates. The conference is supported by leading law firms, expert consultancies, academic institutions, arbitral institutions, and other professional bodies from the continent and beyond.

The speaker lineup includes some of the most prominent legal and technical professionals in the field and will present both in-person and online networking opportunities with stakeholders from across the continent with sponsors virtual booths permitting direct engagement with delegates.

The conference features full plenary and parallel sessions over two days, covering current trends and developments in construction law and the infrastructural challenges faced across English-speaking, Francophone and Lusophone African jurisdictions. The agenda explores a wide range of issues, covering the full financing, contracting and dispute resolution spectrum. The schedule includes sessions on infrastructure investment and sustainability, adjudication, an analysis of several African arbitration seats, the use of expert witnesses, and a session exploring the future of turnkey contracting in Africa.

The agenda also features an Oxford style debate session, looking at specialised construction courts and whether they are better suited to resolve African construction disputes, compared to arbitration.
