She’s Got the Guns is book one in The Suite #45 series by M.O. Mack. Going into this, I knew it would be suspenseful but I didn’t realize it would be a bit on the dark side. And wow was it intense. I could not put it down!

Emily Rockford is on the run from an abusive husband who is also a very dangerous man. He also works for the FBI. He has connections everywhere. But Emily has meticulously planned and covered her tracks well. She landed in El Paso, Texas. When she saw a job advertised for a receptionist and the wages were paid in cash, she jumped at it. But, hadn’t Emily learned by now that when things seemed too good to be true, then they usually were?

All Emily is supposed to do is answer the phone and take messages for Mr. Sampson. It doesn’t take her long, though, to start putting the puzzle pieces together. The pest control company wasn’t what it seemed. The pests they were exterminating were all of the two legged variety.

Emily finds herself thrown into a world of hit men, danger and guns. This is definitely not what she had in mind when she ran from her old life. But, Emily also discovers that she is changing. She is no longer a scared woman. She’s brave. She’s strong. She’s smart.

This book was pretty non-stop from start to finish. My heart was in my throat all the way through. I felt so awful for what Emily had been through. I loved watching her discover what she was truly capable of. There isn’t any romance in this book. Maybe a hint of attraction but that’s all. This is all about Emily. I consider myself a romance junkie so even I’m surprised to hear myself say how much I loved this book. So go ahead, give it a try. I hope you love it too!

Favorite Quotes:

Mr. Sampson, the man who’d hired her, said they performed “discreet pest control” for the sort of people who didn’t want their neighbors knowing they had roach issues. “It’s a status thing,” he’d said… She glanced at the machine, noting a giant cockroach skittering across the yellow Formica counter off to the side of the room. It stopped, turned in her direction as if warning her off, and then disappeared down the rust-stained sink at the end. She lifted a brow. Pest control, huh? Well, if that was really Mr. Sampson’s business, he sucked at it.

Ubering to a gunfight. What could possibly go wrong with this plan?

“So how will the jobs come in?” Was there a Craigslist for criminals? she wondered.

They’ve all experienced some sort of personal loss, and when you’ve spent a significant part of your adult life being trained to protect and kill, it’s a skill they’ve chosen not to waste. Also, the money is really good.

My Review:

Aspiring authors should take note - this is the way to launch a new name and ignite a new series. I hit my groove with this cleverly penned tale - it was as snarky and amusing as it was tautly edgy and intriguing. I gleefully inhaled this book in an afternoon; it was a fun read although there were deathly serious issues at hand. The characters were uniquely compelling and tickled my curiosity while the storylines kept me itchy for more. A battered wife on the run takes an odd job from the want ads and after sitting in a filthy office for a week by herself realizes she has been employed by an enigmatic assassin who is full-on about “the rules” and instructs her not to ask questions as, “It’s considered rude in our line of work.” I adored this witty and humorous missive and can’t wait for the next installment.

I was really tired of reading fantasy fiction, so I decided to switch it up with a short, fast book and surprisingly, I ended up loving this way more than I expected.

This is a fairly short book but the amount of content and build-up the author was able to put into it was absolutely amazing! It seemed a little OTT at times, but since it's fiction, it's acceptable and if anything, it added more flavour to the story.
The characters were good, albeit only two had major time of course, but I'd like to clarify that this is not romance- there's some heat and tension, and a 'barely there' kiss in the end but that's all. It's more of a suspense story, just the way I love it and the twists in the story, even while being a little predictable were absolutely wonderful.

The only thing I'm so pissed about is that this ends on a cliffhanger with no news on the second book and I'm dying to read ahead 😩

My, my, my. Give me more, please! Do I really have to wait for the second installment?

Emily Rockford is trying to disappear. Her ex, a corrupt FBI agent, is looking for her. She steals away to her second best destination in Texas. She changes her name, finds a place to live, and surprisingly, a job. She answers an ad in the local paper. The interview process is a bit obscure, but Emily keeps her head up and shows up. A pest control company, who knew.

A pest control company, really? Hmmmm........Nope. Not buying it. Emily realizes there is a bit more to this company than so-called pests. All she is supposed to do is take phone messages, then put them in the drawer of her desk. An ominous phone call. A customer stalking her because the boss never got back to him. A man working for the boss coming in and wanting his money for a job well done. What money? Where is the boss? What the hell is going on? Who exactly is she working for? A company. An elite company with a special skill set.. A big ol' bunch of hit men and hit women. That's who she is working for.

This book is chalk full of everything that warrants a book to be read, maybe more than once. Buckle up and hold on tight because you are in for a thrilling ride. In fact, I believe I have one heck of a case of whiplash. I was so not expecting a book of about 200 pages to pack such a wallop. The execution of the story is phenomenal. The main characters work brilliantly together and the best part? Emily takes no sh*t!!!

Thanks to NetGalley, Thrill House Publishing, and M.O. Mack for an ARC in return for an honest review.

She finally escaped her monster of a husband, but has she gone from the frying pan into the fire? M.O. Mack’s SHE’S GOT THE GUNS is more than just a fabulous foundation to a new series filled with suspense, action and a wonderful human element. Humor, heart and the insecurities of finding oneself out of their depth, this is also the story of the dark side of life and how one woman will find herself “more” than she ever thought she could be. Hang on tight as Emily comes into herself, finds her inner grit and steel and uses it to make heroes out of the worst of the worst.

From start to finish, there is the perfect mix of humor, just a touch of romance/not romance, and intrigue as M.O. Mack tackles some hot topics while creating a rapid-fire tale that is thoroughly entertaining! Can’t wait for more from this author whose style is electric!

I received a complimentary copy from M.O. Mack! This is my honest and voluntary review.

Who is M.O. Mack? Never mind who wrote this book, it's great fun reading it. "She's Got the Guns is the first book in a new series. Emily Rockford is at the desk in the office of her new job. She is to answer the phone and take messages and never ask any questions. Sound easy right? According to her new boos whom she never has met they do pest control. Yeah, right. But you can't be picky when you are running from your crooked husband. This is a new author for me and I must be really lucky. It's the fourth new author I've read in a week and they are all good. This was so good so I bought the next one before I was done with the first.

If you like suspense with a hint of romance, one click this book right away. It starts off at sixty miles per hour and then goes screaming down the highway, and it will be all you can do to hold on tight for the ride. This is a pen name for an extremely gifted queen of romantic comedy, but her talent really shines in this genre.

Emily Rockford is a nobody. She escaped her abusive husband, moved across the country, and is doing her best to be invisible. But a girl's gotta eat, so she takes a sketchy job answering the phone, taking messages, making no conversation with callers and asking no questions. The more she learns about her new job, both inadvertently and with a little snooping, the more she becomes embroiled in danger.

Holy wow, this book stole my breath! It reads really quickly, and saying it captured my attention doesn’t begin to do it justice. It seemed like time stood still as it held me in its hypnotic snare. Emily has certainly found herself in a big, dangerous, intriguing mess, seemingly running from one desperate situation to another. While this storyline is wrapped up nicely, there's more to come in this series with Emily, and I need it now!! Run to the 1-Click and start reading this phenomenal, gripping, suspenseful story today!

M. O. Mack is a new suspense author for me, but her writing style and ability to pull me in to a fast-paced, wild story felt like an old friend.

Right from the start, I could picture every detail of the setting and felt myself slip into the seedy office where Emily sat, and feel the minutes tick by as she sat at her “ask no questions”, boring job. I could feel the unease as Emily figured out what it was that her mystery employer really did, and the anxiety that escalated when Mr. Cold Eyes walked in the door demanding information and money.

I loved reading about a world that exists in the shadows and on the fringe. In the best way possible, this story of a company of hired assassins was exaggerated and over the top in its situations and characters, and it was so much fun.

Almost as much as I adored the humor and forbidden nature of the story, I also enjoyed reading about Emily herself. Here was a woman on the run, always made to feel weak and worthless, without ever realizing what power she possessed. She was a strong woman because she felt fear, yet still reached within herself to find an inner core of steel that she never realized she had. Watching her grow and become the lion she was meant to be was a satisfying journey.

The characters and the feelings that the writing created reminded me a lot of Janet Evanovich and her Stephanie Plum series in that they were both well written, on the edge of society, and a group dedicated to taking out those less desirable. This story was the perfect introduction to what I hope is a new world of strong women and hired guns, and I can’t wait for more.

An amazing debut book from new author M.O Mack!!!
If you love some mystery and intrigue then this is the book for you!

I was fortunate enough to be given an ARC from the author and team, and I'm very grateful for the opportunity to read a debut book!

M.O Mack brings us an interesting story of a "pest control" company that specialises in exterminating. The whole story is a mystery inside a mystery kind of scenario, and you'll find out all about that nearer the end. I loved the concept, and just, well, everything about it! And I'm so damn glad there is more to come!

You will have questions from the beginning, but nothing like the questions our leading lady has. How on earth did she get herself into this situation, and an even bigger question? How the hell can she get out of it!?
Emily has escaped one bad situation only to find herself knee deep in what appears to be an even worse one, except for the scary dude she's nicknamed Mr Cold Eyes. Oh Lordie, as much as this is a thriller there is definitely chemistry there!! EEEEK.

Total 5 star read and really looking forward to the continuing saga of Suite #45!!!

This is going to be an outstanding series! There isn’t anything I want to say about the plot or summary because I’m sure to give something away. Just know that the ride does not stop, it’s intense with a bit of sass and humor along with flying bullets and car chases. My first love is always going to be suspenseful thrillers and now I have a new author for my list. Mack’s debut book has got twists, intrigue, bad guys and even badder bad guys, and a chick with more street smarts than she ever imagined. I received an early copy from the author and I was thrilled to read her first book, my review provided voluntarily.

She's Got The Guns (The Suite 45, Book 1)

*** 5 Stars ***

Amazing start to this series, an intriguing and addictive read that I couldn't put down. I loved every minute with all those unexpected twist and turns, nothing about this book is predictable.

Emily aka Jane is a funny and feisty character that I loved throughout. A great read, with a healthy dose of humour, action and suspense.

Can't wait to read more in this series.

Good Guys Don’t Always Wear White

In this debut novel from author M.O. Mack, we jump headfirst into a fast-paced and exciting and action-packed series complete with code names, car chases, guns for hire, and *really* bad guys!

This is a five-star read for me - I love LOVED this book. In fact, I devoured it in one sitting because I wasn’t able to find a point that I felt I could stop and survive the wait! This book is a thrill ride from the first page, and the more tidbits we learn about Emily and her plight, the more we love her. On the run from a ruthless and abusive ex with friends in high places, Emily takes a cash job as a receptionist for a shady pest control company. Desperate times call for desperate measures, but little does she know that her new boss has secrets of his own to protect!

That’s as far as I want to go with any sort of plot info with this review – can’t risk spoiling a single thing for everyone. Just one click this book – you won’t regret it. Think Stephanie Plum meets Hermoine Granger (her personality & smarts)...yea, Emily is my hero(ine)!

This book is intense and fun; a twisting, turning roller coaster of suspense and action, with a whole lot of wit and sass to go with it! Perfection. I voluntarily received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. I’m excited beyond words for the premise of this new series. I need MORE from Emily and The Suite 45 – like NOW!

Emily Rockford has been beaten down by life at every turn. She’s on the run from her past and trying desperately to claw her way out of the dark and into a new life. Hiding out in El Paso, TX with limited options and even more limited funds, getting the job answering phones for a pest control company seems like the break she needs. Unfortunately a cash only business with odd working conditions, and an extremely elusive boss is more as dangerous if not more so than the life she fled.

Full of shadowy characters, puzzles, and intriguing plot twists M.O. Mack has done a great job of spinning a tale that keeps you engaged and interested. Actually more like on the edge of your seat wanting to know what happens next. Although the first in the series, the book wraps up nicely without a cliffhanger but leaves you definitely ready for the next one.

She’s Got the Guns is the debut suspense novel series by M.O. Mack which is a code name for a well known author stepping into a new genre. (Don’t bother trying to figure out who though as they have done a great job of obscuring anything that might endanger their true identity. They could tell us who they are but then they would have to kill us, you know the deal.)

Great Entertainment!!!

Do you daydream? I sure do. In them I play out wild scenarios that I wish could really happen. I can really go down a rabbit hole. These daydreams are always a bit over the top, exciting, fun, and maybe even a bit dangerous, but I always, always end up on top and much more amazing than I am in real life. ;)

Well this book was like the best of my day dreams, fast paced, adventurous fun, with enough snark and humor to keep things wildly entertaining.

This is a seriously good suspense/thriller with plenty of twists and turns. Our heroine is on the run, out of money, and could use a job. Our Hero is extremely alpha, competent, and deadly. Just who is this mysterious employer? Should she stay and trust, or run to the hills? I read this gem in one sitting to find out! I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.

I absolutely loved this book. Emily is awesome. The poor thing has had so much bad luck and keeps getting herself into more "trouble" without even trying. The twists, turns and mystery in this book are great. I couldn't put it down and finished the book in one night. I can't wait to see where this series goes.

Ohhhhhjh but I need more ASAP!
This is a thrilling beginning to an action packed series! This is not sweet and fluffy. This is not romance with some twists and turns. This is a story with questionable but honorable characters you can’t help but root for. There are surprises at every turn of the page. I cannot wait to follow Emily and Charge along this journey!

Wow! Be prepared! She's Got The Guns is an incredible rollercoaster ride that is fast paced, filled with twists and turns and dramatic ups and downs. It's tense. It's volatile. It's suspenseful. Yet there are some very humorous moments too. I was captivated in the first few pages.

Buckle Your Seat belt and Keep Your Hands Inside the Vehicle at ALL Times!

This was a spectacularly fun, fly by the seat of your pants book. The protagonist is a smart, resourceful woman who manages to think problems through and act swiftly. She is not looking or waiting for anyone to rescue her. While she doesn’t go looking for trouble, trouble finds her and she handles it all it with intelligence and action.

She’s Got the Guns is the first book in a series, so don’t expect any sort of definite conclusion. That said, the ending is satisfying while also leaving this reader wanting the next book to release soon. Well under 200 pages, it is easily read in one sitting. The pace is fast but steady, with nothing feeling rushed and no dragging.

I’m not entirely sure how this book ended up on my GR feed (maybe Carol? Thanks!) but I’m really glad it did. Its a page turner right from the start. The suspense, the intrigue! It jumps right in and you feel the confusion and the questions right along with the MC and have to keep going with her to see where it goes next. And next. And next! This book lures you in page by page! I did see the twist coming but didn’t really care. I got that satisfied feeling of being right then just wanted more!

I couldn't put this book down! It was so full of twists & turns that I never knew what was going to happen next. The main character is on the run from her abusive ex, so she takes a shady job where they won't look too hard into her background. She soon realizes that she has no idea what she has gotten herself into. Then the roller coaster ride of a plot commences. I am already impatient to know when book two comes out. This is the first book published by M.O. Mack, but this is no inexperienced author who you have to make allowances for. It's top-notch writing. Also, a steal at the current ebook price of 99 cents.
