One Last Wish

Rate this book
Christmas time is supposed to be filled with festive cheer, love, and laughter. For Brook Taylor, returning home to be with her family is about to turn her life upside down and cast a bad vibe over the holiday period.

Brook’s mother, Judy, has been given a terminal diagnosis, but little does she know that Judy has got one last wish for her daughter – to see her happy and in love with the one and only Matthew Simpson.

For Matthew, Brook was the one that got away all those years ago. She’s the one who’s always out of reach. Time and time again, his heart is broken when Brook runs. But now, with dark clouds hanging over their sleepy Scottish village nestled under the hills, enough is enough.

Life is too short, but can Brook and Matthew realise that all their problems could be solved if they just tell each other the truth?

Will Judy get her one last wish?

Only time will tell if light can be found at the end of this Christmas period.

One last wish is a festive story that a lot of people will relate to. Christmas is supposed to be a time for love and laughter, but sometimes, tragedy strikes at the worst time possible. One last wish will be a tear jerker. You will laugh and probably shed a tear or two, but you will connect with the characters, feel their story deep within, and rejoice with them in the end.

Releases on 23rd December.

When a book reminds you of reality you can't help but give it 5 stars. . . when it's done right and this time it was. The loss of a parent is hard and life doesn't make it easier when it also comes as a slap in the face. She didn't know anything was wrong with her mom, by phone it's easy to fool someone. He was her best friend til she up and left him years ago to pursue her life. He knew he loved her but refused to start anything because he knew she was leaving. Now she's back and her mother is working on them. Although this isn't on the happiest of subjects this author finds a way to interweave their love story into this story of loss. It's a wonderful story that will touch your heart along with everything else.

When it comes to Christmas books, I am a big fan. I love the warm and fuzzy vibe you get from them, and the romances are always so heartwarming.

One Last Wish is heartwarming in quite a different way. The overall storyline is not really a happy one - in fact, it's extremely sad. However, this is not a book that will leave you feeling miserable once it's over. Quite the opposite, actually. One Last Wish has a romance weaved into it that will draw you in and have you hoping that that one last wish is, indeed, granted.

K.M Lowe has quite the knack for emotional reads, and this one is no exception.

One Last wish, what an emotional ringer this was! Man, I can't remember the last time a book made me cry this much!

Brook Taylor, the prodigal daughter, coming home for Christmas.
Matthew Simpson, a man with a big heart and his head on straight. His sense of humor, and understanding made it easier to get through all the sadness in this story. And Martha, what a hoot! Judy <3

"Life is for living, having fun, and enjoying time with the people you have with you, because you never know when their time will end. No one's tomorrow is guaranteed. You've just got to make the most of today."

I don't know how this amazing author does it, time after time, but she brings us one fantastic book after the other. Filled with all the feels, laughter and inspiration!

I knew this book was going to be an emotional heartbreaker, as soon as I read those first few pages. It’s so beautifully written and very relatable, with characters that you will fall in love with.
My heart broke for Judy, Brook and Simon and I fell in love with Matthew who is the kindest loving Man.
This is a tear jerker so grab your tissues....

Just beautiful ❤️❤️❤️

Judith Taylor has one last wish as she finds out her cancer is terminal, and that is to see her daughter Brook and Matthew Simpson get back together and settle down. Life can be so cruel.
This couple have been best friends all their lives and Brook left ten years ago to join a law firm in York.
Living in a sleepy village Ochil Hills in Scotland was never enough for her daughter.
Matthew works as a funeral director that's ironic as she bumps into him coming out the hospital after been told the news and she confess all to him including wanting him to arrange her funeral.
Brook and her brother Simon and his wife Colette have to be told at some point and two months later Brook travels home after taking leave to devastating news about her mum.
Just one last Christmas with her family is all Judy asks for and her last wish.
What a truly remarkable heart breaking story, the chemistry between Brook and Matthew is there for all to see but it goes further than been best friends could they both see that love is included. Spending precious time together with the Christmas festivities they share everything together.
A dynamic love story that takes you breath away reading. grab a few tissues and relax and read.

After the year we've all had, sometimes it's cathartic to just have a good cry. If you're needing one, give this emotive read a go. Have the tissues handy!

Brook and Matthew. Boy/girl next door, best friends since forever, had more than one "almost" encounter. You'd think the romance would run easy wouldn't you? Nope. Brook wants more than a small village in Stirlingshire can provide. Matthew is a homebird. But when tragedy again strikes Brook's family, will these two finally have the stars align?

Matthew is oh so unassumingly solid. He's a family man, has a sense of humor, and understands the place his Funeral Director's business has in the community. He helps families in their times of stress and smoothly paves the way for them to say goodbye to their loved ones.

Brooks...I at times wanted to throttle that woman! She just keeps getting in her own way and then heaping the blame on others. Thankfully she grew on me and I have to admit that her and Matthew appeal to my sense of "made for each other". Judy is the epitome if dignified in the face of tragedy and Martha, well sh could cause a riot in an empty house! LOL

All the emotions, slow burn of a romance and family loss, they all mix together into one cracker of a wee story!

The ending of this book.. come on! I just didn´t expect it! Can´t wait to read other books from this great writer! Amazing job! a must-read!. A fantastic book that has it all!

I happily endorse this story to any and all who are looking for an enjoyable read and a completely different experience than anyone could imagine on their own. This author is truly comfortable in his writing style. It is clean, lean, just what is needed to help the reader look forward to his future stories. If there is a series to follow, his books will be gobbled up. I couldn't stop till the end!

Equally heart breaking and uplifting, emotional overload. I cried and I laughed, then I rejoiced. This story is a hard one to read at times, you know what's going to happen at some point and that will be sad, but you know what K.M handled it beautifully. The friendship this couple had was amazing, Matt had been Brook's rock for many years, hadn't pushed for what he really wanted, he put her first always. Brook knew that she loved Matt but she had wanted more than their little town, it takes her mum and a home truth and few other things for her to have a lightbulb moment. Such a great Christmas story with all the emotions that are always more highlighted around holiday times, losing someone you love is never easy but can forever influence how you celebrate when it comes at a holiday time. I hope that other readers feel inspired by this.

'We want each other, it's plain as day, and we're not kids anymore' ~Matthew

As the blurb states, this is certainly one that needs tissues whilst reading! For as much as the Festive holidays are filled with joy, sadly the loss featured is one that can occur at such time of year, that being said, it also has a second chance romance element that develops between Brook and Matthew, the chemistry/history that they have together (though as times I did feel like throwing my kindle with the way Brook was being!) along side some funny moments especially Matthew's Mum. I won't go into any more detail so not to give much more away, it's told in DUAL POV's (with the exception of the Prologue from Judy's), and an Epilogue that brought some light, it was an engaging read.

I'm a sucker for a Christmas read.
One Last Wish by K.M Lowe is such a fantastic, emotional and heartwarming story.

Brook Taylor comes home for Christmas, a little earlier than planned to find out her mum doesn't have long.
Matthew Simpson is always there when Brook needs him and this time is no different, if only she knew how much he needed her too.
Judith has one last wish, to see her daughter happy and settling down - can Brook and Matthew give her her wish?

K.M. Lowe has a way of pulling you into her characters world and I was pulled right in after only reading the first few pages. This one really got me, the storyline hitting close to home. It pulled on every emotional heartstring I have but I think I needed it.  Tissues were definitely needed.

Grab One Last Wish, some tissues, curl up and get ready for an amazing read.

Lord have mercy did this book ever hit home. A holiday storyline pack full of emotion. Some laughs, some tears, some happy some sad - yes this book hits them all. Ms. Lowe never ceases to amaze me with her amazing writing style. One Last Wish is written well with wonderful characters. The author has taken a hard topic, the loss of a loved one, especially around the holidays, and given us a great storyline that this reader won’t soon forget. This heartfelt book has a touch of humor, heartache as well as the magical touch of friends and romance.

I can’t recommend this novella enough.

I love Christmas books and this one was so heart-warming and heart-breaking at the same time, it is so well written and from the heart.

When Brooks mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer and only had a few months to live, Brook returned home to Scotland to spend the time with her.

Matthew has loved Brook since they were children and was always her rock, always by her side even though every time she left it broke his heart a bit more, but he knew that with her mum not going to be with them for long he had to be there for her and put his needs aside.

but what will happen between them?

An easy 5 stars

I struggled to read this book at the start, as unfortunately it was very close to home for me. Once I did start it I had to find out how Brook and Matt’s story ended. Kelly has written the characters in a very believable way. I loved how brave Judy was after getting her devastating news, and how her and Martha just wanted to see their children get together. I have to say I wanted to shake Brook and get her to wake up to what was right in front of her. You need to find a nice quiet place to curl up and read this book, and don’t forget the tissues you will definitely need them.

Very Emotional

Well this story made me cry. It was emotional, so many times I wanted to shout at Brook to open her eyes and see just how much Matt loved her and how she was breaking his heart. He was her best friend but her work had taken her away from where they lived for years. Now she was back to care for her sick Mum, Judy, who has one last wish. To see Brook and Matthew finally come to their senses. But will they fulfil her wish?

If you are looking for a book full of love, all of the emotions, and relatable characters...look no further. I cried through most of this book. Brook is one I sympathized so much with as I reflected on experiences in my own life. This story will affect you so deeply that I recommend tissues and maybe a strong drink. It’s also one you must read and are sure to enjoy.

This has so many emotions tissues require!!!
Brook and Matthew, best friends for as long as they remember had more than one "almost" encounter but didn’t quite get there fo4 one reason or another.
Romance wasn’t easy for them.
Brook wants more in her life than a little village in Stirlingshire and spreads her wings however Christmas has brought her home
Matthew is a homebody who’s happy where he is. But when tragedy strikes Brook's family will these two finally have the stars?..
Matthew is a fantastic guy, he’s a family man with great humour and is totally reliable his position in the Funeral Director's business has kept him grounded
He helps families in their times of grief with a need to let them grieve and say goodbye to their loved ones.
Brook I found frustrating. She seemed spoilt, and managed to blame anyone but didn’t take any responsibility herself. She did grow on me and I have to admit that her and Matthew did seem to work.
All the feels, a slow burn romance of family loss very well written.
A good reminder that Tomorrow is never guaranteed

Christmas filled story full of love and saddness in equal measures.
Brook heads home to see her mum before Christmas and its not all plain sailing, especially when she comes face to face to best friend Matt with his undeclared feelings.
Beautiful writing and beautiful story.
