Lenny Crawt, who was jailed for the murder of Walton fisherman Scott Wilkinson, has been found dead in prison.

Crawt, 19, was serving his sentence at HMP Aylesbury, a young offenders' institution in Buckinghamshire. He was found dead on May 16.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: “HMP Aylesbury prisoner Lenny Crawt died on May 16.

“As with all deaths in custody there will be an independent investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.”

Lenny Crawt and his brother Shane were convicted of murdering Scott Wilkinson, 48, near Sunbury Lock, while their cousin Charlie Smith was convicted of manslaughter in 2019.

The attack was described as a "frenzied and sustained assault" and involved Mr Wilkinson being bludgeoned to death with a piece of wood.

The murder of Scott Wilkinson

In July 2016, Scott headed to Sunbury Lock on a fishing trip. His body was found floating in the Thames three days later, beaten to death with blunt object.

There followed a two-year investigation involving hours of trawling through CCTV footage, interviewing witnesses, collecting confessions and - eventually - a five-week trial at Guildford Crown Court that saw three defendants pursue what are called "cut-throat" defences, blaming each other for the killing.

Lenny was the youngest of the killers. He had barely turned 16 when he helped batter Scott Wilkinson to death on Donkey Island.

Like his six siblings he had been brought up in care due to concerns about parental neglect, moving through nine counties in eight years, and despite his age already had a child, conceived when he was just 15.

Indeed, at the time of the killing he was "on the run", having absconded from his children's home in Blackpool.

He had travelled back to West Molesey to visit his family but camped on Donkey Island with his brother Shane and cousin, Charlie Smith, to avoid being found.
