Shepreth Wildlife Park Appeal

Thank you for taking the time and consideration to read this story. Like every business across the country (and around the world) right now, SWP is suffering the impact of COVID-19. The team here at SWP made the decision to close the wildlife park to visitors on 20th March at 5pm, not knowing for how long that might be.

While we are able to furlough a large number of the staff, we do need to keep our essential animal keepers working as normal to care for the animals, as their welfare remains our top priority.

Although we are closed, our core bills remain unchanged. We still must pay our energy bills, food bills, veterinary costs, waste and water bills etc. The wildlife park costs approximately £2,700 a day to operate since it requires such specialist care and maintenance.

The team is currently applying for a loan to be able to meet these bills for the next 6 months, and while we are grateful to have this lifeline, the repayments on this loan will be impossible if the wildlife park remains closed to visitors.

We do not receive any other form of funding and truly hope normality resumes very soon, so we can continue the great work we do on conservation, education and rehabilitation. The school trips that we host throughout the spring and summer terms will be a huge revenue lost to us and, a sadly very quiet and desolate park, which has never had to close its doors on this level before.

We have asked for help and support for the SWCC charity Hedgehog Hospital in the past, but have not needed to for the wildlife park, as the admission income, retail gift shop sales and cafeteria all support the running costs and care of the animals. Now that we no longer have these revenue streams, we really do need your help, to help us care for all the animals here in the style they both require and deserve.

The smallest donation makes a difference and is received with the deepest gratitude. This family-run organisation began 40 years ago with the love and respect of all animals at its core - and this soulful core remains at its ethos.

Your kindness will help us - help them - so together we support those that can't support themselves in an ever-changing world.
