The Aftermath of Drifting Away

Rate this book
We survived the plane crash.

We survived days on a raft in the middle of the ocean. Right when all hope to get rescued crumbled, we shared a kiss that left me heartbroken―my first and last kiss.

Or so I thought. Because we didn’t die.

My plan is to never see Chris Ross again. To keep hanging out with his sister without crossing his path. Getting my life back together and working on my goals are the only things that matter. I have plans, and they don’t include love.

But then he shows up at my workplace, asking for my friendship. When I learn something that changes everything, I’m determined to stay away and not let myself fall for him.

Too bad he’s persistent. Too bad I can’t stop thinking about the damn kiss. Too bad it’s nice having him around and being his friend.

If things were to change, they could get really complicated…

The Aftermath of Drifting Away is a sweet contemporary forbidden romance. It is the first book in the Fate series that can be read as a stand-alone.

Audrey Beaudoin creates a forbidden love triangle, in The Aftermath Of Drifting Away. Narrowly escaping a devastating plane crash, Faye shares a tender moment with a fellow passenger, Chris. Neither expecting to survive the ordeal, to their surprise they get a second chance at life. However, the return to everyday life has its challenges, including severing their indescribable connection, making things messy and complicated.

An intriguing concept, the pace throughout the story was steady. The heroine is very innocent, and the hero is slightly unaware to key situations . Introduced to the villain at the beginning and the middle of the story, then reintroduced at the end with a bit of danger. We had wished that there was a greater climatic build up to the action sequence, giving us more anticipation. That being said we look forward to future reads by Beaudoin.

Many thanks to Audrey Beaudoin for an ARC, in exchange for an honest review.

"𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧”

This book revolves around the lives of 3 beautiful people who survived a plane crash together and have been inseparable since. The title is actually somewhat of a spoiler to be honest. I have never felt so moved by a book until this one. I am not kidding when i say that this book made me happy, inspired, hopeful, sad, devastated, angry, and everything else in between. As i have told the author, i was very much able to relate to the characters hence why i became so emotional reading this. Moving on, let’s talk about the characters.

Faye is freelancing as a photographer because it was her dream to be a good one. She grew up with her mom, has no siblings, and she was told that her dad left when she was a baby. She was close to her mom until one day, she suddenly got rejected. Going on that plane was supposed to be the start of her new journey until it crashed.

Chris is a mechanic who is handling his father’s company when he passed. Despite of all the things he had endured, he still turned out to be a great gentleman who is very optimistic and is very nurturing as a person. He went on that plane for a reason that you will find out later on (if you decide to read it).

Kate is Chris’ little sister who loves her brother dearly and is very protective of him too. The bond that they have made my heart swell because you would know that they were both raised well and they both have genuine hearts.

Another character i loved in this book is Bree who eventually became friends with Kate and Faye. She swore that guys are bad news and therefore she will only date women instead. I love her personality because she’s the kind of friend that would tell you honest things even if she hurts you rather than telling you what you want to hear to make yourself feel better. She’s the kind of friend i would want to have in my life as well.

The characters that pissed me off so much, well you’re just going to have to read about them. This book honestly surpassed my expectations and i am ecstatic! The scenes where i thought “this” was going to happen suddenly has a plot twist, which honestly made it so much better and unpredictable! The ending was perfect for the story because it just is, and you’ll understand it once you read this book.

“𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐚 𝐛𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠. 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧. 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐲. 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐢𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞. 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬. 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐭𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐧𝐨 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐫.”

Would i recommend this? YOU BET. This is not just about romance. It’s about one’s self too—how people can lose themselves because of the tragedies and trauma’s they experience in life, how they cope with the aftermath, and how they stand up again to make themselves better. This book opened my eyes to different things and i cannot wait to read the next 2 books in this series. A huge congratulations to the author for writing such a good book! 🎉

This book hooked me from the start. The prologue starts off with Faye, Chris and Kate on day 10 of being adrift in the ocean after their plane to Hawaii crashed. Kate had boarded the plane planning to jump start her freelance photography business and Chris was going to Hawaii for a then unknown reason and, his sister, Kate and decided to tag along. Faye thinking that they were all about to die asks Chris to give her one thing she had yet to experience, a kiss. Chris agrees and the two share a beautiful moment but hours later they’re rescued. The book picks up four months later and we see where the characters are in their lives.

There was a lot of things I loved about this book. The first is the prologue I mentioned above. I don’t know if I’ve ever been that emotional over the start of a novel before, but when I teared up I knew that I was going to enjoy every single page.

Another thing that I appreciated about the book is the flashbacks from the crash to the present time. Typically, I’m not a huge fan of having entire chapters dedicated to flashbacks but in this case I think it really brought more depth to the story. It was good to see how Faye was dealing with the trauma of the crash and how she was trying to heal and move on.

The friendships in the book were amazing! It made me happy that Faye and Kate grew so close and made a life long friendship out of a tragic event. The crash also brought another character, Bree, into Faye’s life and I absolutely adored her as well and hope we get a book about her and her girlfriend Emily. (If they’re still together).

Finally, I loved the romance. Chris and Faye had an amazing slow burn and watching them develop from strangers, to friends to lovers was a beautiful thing. They both cared about each other so much. Chris was always so sweet with Faye, genuinely wanting to get to know her, listening to her when she needed someone, and encouraging her to get back to her passion. Plus any guy who’s willing to put on a face mask and paint his friends nails is a winner in my book. Faye also wanted what was best for him even if it wasn’t what she was wanted and always gave him a listening ear if needed.

Now that I’ve said all that there’s really only two things that brought my rating down. The first and major thing was Allison. I think that whole situation was dragged out a bit too long. If it was dealt with early I feel like I could’ve appreciated Chris and Faye’s relationship progression more, but instead I was constantly thinking of her. I do like however that the author didn’t let anything happen with Chris and Faye until after they broke it off. The other minor issue I had was the spelling errors. I remember noting some but they didn’t bother me too bad. I’m hoping since I got an ARC that they were fixed and don’t show up in the finished version.

Anyways, I loved Faye and Chris’s story and can’t wait to read more from this author!

Wow this book is the definition of reading past your bed time! Wow wow wow.

This book has the perfect amount of tension, suspense, drama and slow burn romance.

Chris, Kate and Faye are the survivors of a plane crash. When all hope seems lost, Chris and Faye share a life changing kiss. Months later, that kiss still means everything to Faye however she was not expecting Chris' current situation.

I loved everything about this book!! Every chapter was a page turner, there was so much drama and suspense throughout this book that I couldn't put it down. I was gripped from the very first page! The flow of the storyline was perfect.

This story is being told from Faye's POV and usually I prefer a dual POV however, in my opinion the single POV worked really well. It backed up the suspense. There is so much mystery between the character, it was quiet intense at times but I loved it.

Kate and Bree need their own books!

I loved this book so much and I highly recommend it.

Thank you to the author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Faye is at the beginning of her journey as a photographer. But what she isn't expecting is to meet Kate and Chris on the plane.

Nor is she expecting the plane to come down and in the wreckage the three of them depend on each other for survival.

Faye doesn't want to die in the middle of the ocean amongst the wreckage without experiencing her first kiss.

So she does .. But they survive and Faye loses her ability to want to continue her career path after the crash . But what she doesn't lose is connection with Kate .

Faye learns she still has much more in life than she ever realized or appreciated sometimes all people need is a second chance and a new perspective on life ...

Such a sweet and charming read!

If you are looking for something easy to digest, that will have you laughing, crying, happy and sad this is the book for you. It’s such a great book; not only because of the romance, but because it’s about growth and learning that life’s short and you should be with and do things that you truly love. This book was such a sweet and enjoyable read. It was a super, super, super slow burn with amazing main and side characters. They have depth and are so easy to relate to. I really loved that even though something tragic happened to these three people, that they end up not only finding the best friends but they also help each other grow and learn from their experience together. If you are looking for something easy to read, is full of emotion, but it isn't over the top with drama, this is a book you should pick up.

I saved this review in my notes, but it never made it anywhere else for some reason or another. 🤷🏻‍♀️

This book. Man, before the end of the prologue I was already starting to feel the waterworks coming on. By the end of it, a tear or two had been shed.

The progression of the friendships in this book hit me the hardest. Journeying through tragedy together made them more open to one another.

Add in some slllloooowwww burn romance between Faye & Chris and I was rocked.
I loved this.

This book was an amazing read. The story is about two souls, how their destiny leads them to meet each other. Their life almost ends but this happens to be the beginning of new life.

The character of Faye is so fantastically written, i can relate so much of me with her. I think relating yourself to the characters makes everything feel very real.
The character of chris is so loving and caring, i already loved him, another of my book love. The supporting charcters were truly praiseworthy. My favorite one is kate, would love to have someone like her in my life.

The most brilliant thing , which i loved is how the main character deals with all the trauma , she is going through, how she reconnects with herself, with her passion. She is struggling to stand on her own feets, she doesn't want to depend on anyone. I totally felt connected with faye's
character.

Overall this books is so adorable, i wanna read it again and again. Of course one time isn't enough, it can't be. I was already in love with the writting style of the author and now i would say, i wanna read more and more of her books. The words sinks deep within the soul. I was lost in the story. This book made me forget the world around. Every description was perfect, not too much, nor too less just the required amount. Which i appreciate a lot.

I would suggest this book to whoever desires to read love stories but isn't a fan of dramatic things , then what are you waiting for? Jump right into this book head first, just after reading few pages you would get attached to the storyline.
This book has a magnificent, heavenly love feel, taught me how much precious life is, we must cherish every drop of it.

4.5/5 stars (rounded up to 5)

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Faye has lived through something horrible: a plane crash. It killed most of the passengers, but Faye survived with the help of two strangers. The siblings and Faye were adrift, waiting for help that they weren't sure would ever arrive. But they survived. However, in that desperation, Faye got what she thought would be her first and last kiss from Chris. Now that she's alive and well, she intends to avoid Chris while being best friends with his sister. But staying away isn't as easy as she thought it would be.

This was honestly such a sweet and enjoyable book! I thought the concept seemed really interesting, but I didn't expect that I'd love the characters this much! Something this author excelled at was the relationships in this book. This book has all kinds of relationships: the good, the bad, the ugly. They're all done in such a realistic way. Chris is such a sweetheart and so is his sister, Kate. Some characters I loved, and some characters I hated.

Another thing I loved about this book was the way Faye dealt with the aftermath of the plane crash. Her trauma from that incident isn't just glossed over. Faye lives her life with the mindset that the plane crash took everything from her. But when she stops to think about it, the plane crash gave her a lot too. Her character development and her perspective on life was something that made this book really special. Romance readers looking for a sweet contemporary love story or a forbidden romance should pick up a copy of this!

This book is absolutely amazing!! Audrey has done it again with a completely well rounded and written book. Ever since I read her first book, Secret Agents: My Bodyguard, I've been impatiently waiting for her next novel.
Audrey's writing is absolutely incredible. The way she describes the situations that occur and the people we are introduced to- mind blowing.
As I said, I've been waiting for this book to come out as soon as she announced it was being published, so as soon as I received my copy, I dove in.

The Aftermath of Drifting Away immediately hooks you in from the first page. You are introduced to the main characters, Faye and Chris, who are stranded in the middle of the ocean with no hope of rescue.
Okay, I'll admit, I'm a sucker for romance. So when I'm immediately given two characters in a life threatening situation, who have such an amazing chemistry from the beginning.... I'm hooked!

One thing I love about Audrey's books is her ability to keep you interested. You never get bored while reading, you never are just waiting and waiting for SOMETHING to happen. She paces her story perfectly. She delivers everything with such ease that you can't help but continue the story.

I loved all the characters so much. Kate is to die for and Bree... Hilarious. Everyone is so relatable is some type of way, and it makes me fall in love with them so quickly and wish that they were my friends too!
Of course, you have your antagonists of the story, but Audrey does an amazing job with their development as well. You have Faye's mother, who practically disowned Faye at the age of 14 just because of her career choice. The instant hatred I felt for the woman was crazy.
Oh, and don't even get me started on Allison.. UGH! She is one of the most two faced characters I have EVER read about. You learn things about her that make you want to sympathize with her, but she's just too crazy to feel bad for.

Okay, okay, back to the story.

The ending was incredible. I loved how it tied everything together. Earlier in the book, you were given the tiniest detail about Chris and when you read it, you're like, okay I know this is significant sooooooo what's this about?? You don't find out until the very last chapter, but it was so worth the wait. It was the perfect way to end such a heart warming and lovable story.

This book had me smiling, crying, screaming, squealing... It gave me every emotion. I loved it so much. It has definitely become my favorite read of 2020.
Please go check it out. It's available of Barnes and Noble and Amazon.
AND if you love this story, go check out her first published book, Secret Agents: My Bodyguard, available on Amazon.

This book had me on my toes since the first chapter!!

I loved it so much!!

My first ever Audrey Beaudoin book and I have to say that I enjoyed it so much!!

This book was different from the others that I've read before. More sweet and the main guy is such a sweet heroine that I love!!

The chemistry between them and the longing was so strong! You can feel the love that they have for each other.

The plot was well written and the arcs of both characters was something I really enjoyed reading!

This is such a great summer read that will have your heart pounding and crying cause of the love these characters have for one another! A must read!!

Do you believe in fate? Because this romance sure is caused by fate! This romance starts by a traumatic plane crash causing 3 random people surviving together on a raft. After finding out Chris is already preoccupied, our lovely Faye's heart is broken😭🥺
I absolutely loved this storyline, not only does it flow and come together perfectly, the prologue trapped me immediately💙 the side characters are amazing! I love bree's bluntness, Kate's loyalty, and Jason's sassiness. However, the ending caught me and actually shocked me and I love that so much! I cant wait to read more from this lovely author💙

This story revolves around three main characters, Kate, Faye and Chris. It's a story of love, dreams, passion and fate. How people are meant to cross our path, to change us, influence us, take a place in our life and make us brave and independent.
In a moment of hopelessness and despair, they shared a kiss which broke them morebadly. But who knew what lay ahead, that soon their sinking hearts found an anchor to hold onto.
Sooner than expected because when it's meant to be, it'll be .
This story is so freaking good. It has a perfect flow. I was hooked from the first page. It is heartwarming and a really light read.

This story is about a young woman named Faye who survives a plane crash. I'll admit I've never read a second chance romance before, so this was new territory for me. The past/present style of storytelling, while having the potential to be jarring, is actually quite effective here, and made Faye's internal struggles and healing all the more impactful in the long run. When the plane first fell out of the sky, I was completely engrossed. The descriptions drew me in so deeply that my surroundings melted away, and I was only left with Faye and her terror/need for survival. When Faye woke up, she was on a raft with two siblings she'd been talking to on the plane, Kate and Chris. Faye thinks she's going to die, so she asks Chris to be her first kiss. As it turns out, they all survive.

Most of the book centers on Faye's avoidance of her feelings for Chris, especially since he's engaged to another woman. Faye and Chris have a cute friendship (i.e. him painting her nails and them sharing ice cream -- his favorite/lucky number is also 9, which I enjoyed since my lucky number is 9, as well!). I also discovered a new song thanks to their relationship ("Slow Dance in a Parking Lot" by Jordan Davis), which is funny, because I normally don't like country music.

I really don't want to give too much away, but this was a cute, uplifting book that handled trauma very well. I especially enjoyed the quote about failures/victories at the end, as well as this one, in particular:

"[...] I suppose that's why people hold on so much to photographs. A lot of us take things and moments for granted and only realize it when they're gone and over."

It's definitely easy to take life for granted, and sometimes it takes almost losing said life to realize as such. I think this book did a great job of painting that message, and that you need to act now while you still can!

Beautiful story

The Aftermath of Drifting Away was a book that pulled me in immediately….the agony & despair of the tragedy that Faye, Kate & Chris faced was so horrific and hopeless that I was just completely shaken reading it. And when they were ultimately saved, you would think the worst would be behind them but Faye continues to struggle with surviving such a tragic event and having to re-start her life. She also has to deal with her feelings for Chris, who isn’t available to her the way she wants. This is a beautiful story about starting over, about healing from a tragic event and about the unbreakable bonds created between people, along with a beautiful & bumpy romance between Fay and Chris.

This story had tragedy, hopelessness, joy, guilt, happiness, fear, friendship & love. Audrey was really able to write a story that just completely wrecks your heart. I promise that you will feel like you are with Faye, Kate & Chris in that raft and that you are going through this with them. It is quite extraordinary. And then watching the relationship between Faye & Chris begin, grow & change was done is just a realistic & truthful way. You will be holding your breath through most of the book while hoping & praying it goes the way you want but guaranteed you will not be able to put it down at all.

This is my first book by Audrey but honestly it won’t be the last if she is able to write books that completely transport me into her stories and moves me the way The Aftermath of Drifting Away did.

You follow Faye, a loner on her way to start a photography career, and siblings Chris and Kate. They start off after the crash and moments before rescue. The storytelling is a past/present style, which can get overwhelming, but in this book it adds to the effectiveness of the story. Most of the book centers on Faye's reluctance to admit or act on her attraction to Chris, whom she shared her first kiss with when they thought they were going to die, since he is actually engaged to another woman.

The interactions between Faye and Chris are super cute, like enjoying ice cream together and Chris painting Faye's nails. It's like watching love in slow-mo that builds into something fierce. Without giving too much away, this is a really cute uplifting story that really sinks in the fact that there is life after tragedy, and not to take life for granted.

You are strong enough to face it all, even if it doesn't feel like it right now.
Let's start by saying that I shed some tears! This book was such a simple but breathtaking read. I could really find myself wondering about Faye and the whirlpool of her emotions.
It's had to recover from something you wouldn't ever expect would happen to you that completely changes your prospects on everything you do after it.
The story is about Faye who survives a plane crash with two other people Kate and Chris. Not knowing if she would ever make it.
I love slow burn and God, this was so good.
(ice-cream scenes are adorbs) I love the emotions and the second chance aspect! I loved how the development was gradual and slow since Faye already went through alot.
I love the friendship, witch was unexpected.
Trauma is something that's hard to write and this book carries it well. It doesn't pushes you to believe but it kinda makes you go through it.

Do I recommend it? Yes. This is an roller coster and you'll love the slowburn. There are very less books that pull it up beautifully and this one did!

Faye was so sure she was about to die when she asked Chris, a stranger, for her first kiss. There was no other reason she would ask. But after days of being adrift at sea, they were rescued - and now Faye has to live with the consequences. Including the fact that Chris isn't single!

I loved the premise for this one - there are many fictional romances that begin far away from reality and I always wonder what happens when the couples go back to their real lives. I really felt for Faye, who I honestly would have befriended myself, and she felt very real to me (even if some of the plot developments didn't). A sweet New Adult romance with writing that shows a lot of potential.
