SOMEWHERE, אי שם, في مكانٍ ما
60 Jewish and Arab singers and musicians joined together on the Israeli Opera’s stage to record a special rendition of Somewhere, the powerful song written by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim for West Side Story. United on one stage, they convey a message of hope for a better future for all of us in Israel. “Polyphony embodies so many beliefs I have about the power of music– its potential to inspire, to teach, and to heal divisions for both audiences and performers alike. For the past four years, I’ve watched this remarkable organization nurture today’s students as they grow into mature artists, while fostering and strengthening community and shared ideals. I am so excited to be performing with them in 2020, and to continue watching Polyphony as it brings it message of hope and harmony to audiences all over the world.”
– Renée Fleming
“I recognize the courage required to bring children
together from Israeli and Palestinian communities to find commonality in music as a very powerful and effective
beginning towards peace.”
– Yoko Ono
“Music is one of the ways that we can bridge perceived cultural divides…I was very excited about coming [to Nazareth to play with the young people of Polyphony].”
– Branford Marsalis
“When I learned about Polyphony, I was so mesmerized, the only thing I could ask was if I could join and help by playing with them. It’s an Arab and Jewish endeavor and when they play music, there is nothing more harmonious and beautiful.”
– David Broza
